What you shouldn't do in Porto

1- Non Friendly City for High Heels

 Imagem
Obviously not all the sidewalks are like this one, in fact, this is just a bad example, but still you should believe us when we tell you that our lovely city has streets, and ways that are definitely not for the high heels. You will notice that portuguese girls like to wear other kind of shoes and the reason for that is mainly because they already had their quote of bad situations with high heels.

So if you have doubts about what to bring to Porto, I would say that maybe only one or two pairs of high heel shoes are enough and all the rest without any heels. Bring a bag where you can fit your other shoes without heels, to wear before you go inside of the club and after you leave the club

2- Nightlife before Midnight?

You are at home and you want to go out.....well, look to the watch first and if it is before 24:00 just grab a bottle of wine and drink it at home. It will be cheaper, it will make you warm, and it will give you the necessairy time to go out. If you want to go to a pub or a club, you should never go before 24:00. You will  feel yourself crossing a city in the middle of a "Walking Dead" episode. Worst is the fact that you will start to drink faster at pubs, and around 01:00 you will feel tired and drunk. You will notice that around that moment everyone will be arriving to the club and you are already K.O, instead of being ready to be who you should be on that night.

3- Coming to Porto? you want to keep yourself Fit?

 Imagem
Are you watching yourself in the mirror and thinking how nice you look at this moment? Well, if you are coming to Porto, enjoy the view and take some pictures because we do eat very well here and we do have a big variety of things you will want to try. You try something today, and something tomorrow, and in a month you will notice one thing: the outside of you is not the same as when you arrived to Porto.
As we have been observing Erasmus students in Porto for many years, we do got to a conclusion
: "girls gain weight, and boys get skinny". You wonder why boys get skinny but it is easy to understand it. They are away from home, being the majority not very fans of cooking, they get lazy and dont eat as much as they were eating at home. Together with a lot of alcohol and cigarrettes, they lose the weight.
You think you will resist to the temptation of trying everything that will show up in front of you? Dont resist it, because then you can go back home, exercise a little and get back to what you looked before in a couple of months. Try all the food you can, because the food in Porto is awesome :)

4- Porto, a southern european hot country

You have this picture about our nice weather in your head? You came to Porto in the Summer and it was freaking awesomly hot? Yes it was, but during the winter, you get to feel the opposite, not because of the low temperatures but because of the humidity. Porto is one of the most humid cities in the world and it forces us to get really careful when we dress up during the winter. Even when you go inside of home, the cold follows you because the humidity get stucked in your bones, and you take a couple of minutes to get warm again. If you ask us how you can run away from this problem, we have to honestly point the finger to the ones who coincidently get a girlfriend/boyfriend always during the winter semester. Therefore, bring some nice jackets, and some warm clothes for the winter or otherwise you will have to spend money in the clothes shop.

PS: Bring the most cosy and horrible Pijama to keep yourself warm at home. Foreigners wonder many times why all the portuuguese have very cosy pijamas......well, we know the humidity well, and we learned how a pijama can makes us much more cosy.

5- Dont choose an Erasmus Crappy Card

 Imagem
You arrived to Porto and you want to make your Erasmus Card to feel yourself a real Erasmus?
Porto is a different city. Usually you arrive to a city and you go to make your Erasmus Card to the one and only place you can do it, mainly because it will be the only card that it will make sense to buy. In Porto its not like this. You have more then one choice, and the one that can maybe seem obvious in other cities, it will be, most likely,  the wrong choice on this case.

So what can you do to make your choice?

There are 2 things you can do:

1- Go to a random Erasmus Shitty Association and buy an Erasmus Crappy Card.
Consequences of that:
You bought something that will bring nothing new to you.

2- You can go directly to the Erasmus Life Porto Office and request your card. What is the difference?

-  .....well, you can check here what is the Best Erasmus Card to buy in Porto.

We do honestly hope you enjoyed our tips. Enjoy your time before you start the adventure.

We will be always here for you.
